There

I travelled down by train, observing that trainspotters never seem to stand together. Why is that. Competition?

Were you there?

I walked through Soho, stopping for an espresso – black, acidic jolt – at Bar Italia. Tourist rather than taste.

Were you there?

As a group, we went out to Temper for dinner. A last supper before our GDS Assessment. I looked past the meat on the menu, and had roasted cauliflower and mole on a flatbread with jerk greens.

Were you there?

I went for a stroll after, knowing there was no way I would relax or sleep back in a hotel room – that resembles the side room of a hospital ward. I got Gelupo. Sour Cherry and Ricotta, obvs.

Were you there?

I got up and continued my quest to complete #C25K. I walked/ran through Covent Garden, down to Trafalgar Square, along Whitehall, round the back of Horse Guards parade, up The Mall and back along to Seven Dials.

Were you there?

I even ran past Downing Street with my new burner phone as a police office stood, oblivious to me.

Were you there?

I finished my warm down walk around the Freemasons Hall – tutting “in plain sight, as always” – but stopping just short of laughing at myself.

Were you there?

I got a cardamom bun from Fabrique for breakfast.

Were you there?

I did it all whilst listening to the encouraging voice of Laura, and some terrible music via the Couch to 5K podcast – on my second or third generation iPod – which no longer has software updates available.

Were you there?

No. You weren’t. For all of this is now in my head. Unable to be shown, visually. A phone without a camera means you are never there with me – unless you are stood beside me. It’s amazing how much crap I actually share just because I am doing it and you are NOT there.
